This series, featuring a different plant each week, was started in July 2000 at Kirstenbosch, which has a mediterranean climate with most rain falling in winter. In 2001 the Witwatersrand National Botanical Garden, situated in a summer rainfall biome, began contributing information, followed in 2002 by the other 6 National Botanical Gardens. In 2004 the staff of the three Herbaria also started contributing a page each week.
