The Threatened Species Programme which is part of SANBI's directorate of Biodiversity Policy and Planning is responsible for the collation of data relating to the threatened plants in SA. They have provided access to interim red data lists.
Please contact provincial nature conservation authorties for information relating to the protected plants of each Province and plant permits. No one may collect or transport wild plants in South Africa unless they are in possession of a valid permit and this is issued by the provincial authorities. Permits are also needed to possess some protected plants such as cycads. Please contact your provincial nature conservation authority for details.
